Another Hammer gone
|
Lost my grandad on Saturday night due to that cunting disease dementia. He was a massive west ham supporter and back in the 60's, 70's and 80's He used to drink with the players especially Bobby Moore and knew most of the players such as Bonds, Devonshire and Brooking. The world has lost a great man and due to dementia all his stories and memories went long before he did. Such a fucking horrible disease and wouldn't wish that in anyone. We will be giving him a huge send off and he will be going into the furnace to bubbles. Rest in peace Ronald Frederick Worboyes 28.08.1934

My condolences. I lost my mother to this, so can relate. I focussed on remembering my mum from before dementia took hold. My dad struggled with this, as more recent memories of how she became were too embedded in his brain. Eventually I hit on the idea of printing off a fair few older photos of my mum in her prime. That helped to reset my dad's memories....mine too as well.

Condolences. My father in law died of dementia a few months ago, was horrible watching him deteriorate over 3 odd years.

RIP mate. My mum has not long been in a care home due to vascular dementia. She has decent mornings but deteriorates as the day goes on and I am now three people to her - I'm my late dad, me at 7 years old and me at 51 what I am now. Dreadful disease.

My utmost condolences to everybody.
We went back to check on my mom last year for an extended period. At the end of a long day working on her house with her, a few times she would just say something off hand to me as if I was my deceased father. "Wasn't your mom's [my grandma's] house that colour?" or things like that.
Scary and disturbing
It did not happen for a while before we left (we were considering not coming back) and she has younger siblings in the same little town as here but still bothers me a bit.
To connect to another thread, thanks to the slightly more private part of Facebook, I can check in with her. easily. See what she looks like.
